Avacor
This is a complete line of hair care products designed to regrow hair, while thickening it with shampoos and complimentary products. There are 4 products in their line: A topical agent (contains Minoxidil), a natural pill (contains Saw Palmetto, more info below), a thickening serum, and a scalp detoxifying shampoo.
Topical Solution
Avacor's topical product contains Minoxidil (the same active ingredient as Rogaine), as well as other herbal and natural ingredients. The corporate website says that Avacor contains the "highest concentration of the proven hair growth medication - minoxidil". I guess the highest concentration is the same as maximum strength Rogaine and similar generics, which is 5%.
Dietary Supplement Component of Avacor
The Nutricap oral capsules sold by Avacor contain natural/herbal ingredients. The one most people will recognize is saw palmetto. Many claim that saw palmetto has effects that mimic Propecia, in its ability to alter the way the body handles DHT. However, I have found little hard evidence to support this claim.
The Avacor Nutricaps also contain ginkgo biloba, which may increase bloodflow to the brain. Ginkgo is often taken as a natural supplement to increase mental performance and memory enhancer. Remember, just because something is an herb does not mean it has no side effects. Talk to your doctor when considering any treatment for hair loss, prescription or other.
Before/After Pictures
Avacor's before and after pictures pretty impressive at first glance, but like many of their competitors, some of the pictures are taken from different angles and lighting conditions.
One of my pet peeves in before/afters is when the hair appears wet in the before pic, and dry in the after picture. This is the case in one of the Avacor pictures, currently the first under their testimonials. In the before picture the gentleman's hair is clearly wet, appearing dark gray. In the after pic, his mane is bright white and appears to have been blow-dried to a cotton-like fluffy finish.
