Follicare: a line of products
Follicare is a package of 4 hair loss products: A topical spray, a shampoo, 5% minoxidil(generic Rogaine), and a nutritional supplement. It was developed by Dr. Chris Catalfo. Follicare claims that for most people, minoxidil is not enough. The extra ingredients in their topical spray, shampoo, and nutritional supplement make it more effective.
Follicare Topical Spray
The topical spray in Follicare's package contains ingredients designed to improve blood flow to the scalp, kill bacteria, reduce inflammation, soothe skin, and inhibit DHT (the same method of action used by Propecia and Rogaine). Ingredients include saw palmetto, grape seed extract, gingko bilbao, aloe, and more.
Follicare Shampoo
The shampoo reportedly works in some of the same ways as the topical spray - reducing inflammation, irritation, blocking DHT, and improving blood flow. It also has anti-fungal and microbial ingredients such as propyl paraben.
Nutritional Supplement
Follicare's oral supplement contains 20 natural ingredients, including saw palmetto. Saw palmetto apparently works in a similar manner to Propecia, by blocking DHT (this statement NOT evaluated by the FDA).
Minoxidil 5%
Maximum strength generic minoxodil is included in the Follicare package. This is the same stuff that's in Rogaine and other generic versions, available at drug and grocery stores over-the-counter.
