Donating hair to kids who need it

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Ok… so this post isn’t exactly related to hair loss in the way that the rest of the site is, but this organization is pretty cool. Locks of Love is an organization that gives 100% real hair wigs to children who have long-term medical hair loss. The hair they use to make the wigs is donated by people all over the world. They also need cash to manufacture the hair pieces. These things retail for $3,500 to $6,000! But they can make a real difference to a kid who loses their hair due to a medical condition.

Hair needs to be 10″ long, and not bleached or chemically damaged (it can be dyed, but not bleached apparently). One of the cool things I found out on their website is that most of their donations come from kids. There are a bunch of salons that participate in their program, and can cut your hair at the appropriate length for you.
