Less Well Known Hair Loss Treatments
Some of the most popular alternative hair loss treatments contain copper peptides. Folligen and Tricomin are two of the most well known of such products. Hair naturally goes through alternating phases of rest and growth. The makers of these products claim that copper peptides shorten the resting phase of hair follicles, creating more growth over time through longer growth cycles. Other major hair loss web sites who sell these products claim scientific studies show they promote growth. However, there is no such claim on Tricomin’s official website:
Here is the quote from Tricomin’s website, trimcomin.com: “Studies have demonstrated the positive effects of Triamino Copper Nutritional Complex™ on hair follicles!”.
I researched these products, and there does not appear to be definitive proof that they stimulate hair growth. However, they do seem to promote a healthy scalp. Many people claim to have experienced great results. Copper peptides seem to work well in combination with other treatments, and as a preventative measure.
Nizoral Shampoo
This is one of the only products that have some scientific evidence backing that it is a useful product in the treatment of hair loss. This shampoo was used on every single patient in the FDA trials that proved Rogaine to be an effective product. Nizoral’s active ingredient is an anti-fungal agent. Fungus is thought to play a role in hair loss. Our body’s natural defense against the fungi is to shed hair more rapidly, which creates dandruff and debris. Nizoral can help clear the scalp and unclog hair follicles of debris. This shampoo should be a part of most hair loss treatment regimens. It should be used twice weekly.
Laser Therapy
The Lasercomb by Hairmax is a product that uses laser light to treat hair loss. Many users report thicker, healthier appearing hair. Some users report new hair growth. Hair transplant surgeons sometimes recommend laser therapy as a way to increase scalp health and decrease healing time. Reviews of this product are mixed, some users report great results, some report none whatsoever. Do your research on this product, and consult a dermatologist to find out more. Scalp Stimulation
Stimulating the scalp by massage or with a comb is widely reported to improve blood flow and vitality. This is very difficult to prove in a scientific way, but it is extremely unlikely that stimulation of the scamp will cause or worsen hair loss. You can accomplish this using a soft tipped brush with smooth, repetitive strokes. Massages with fingertips also work well. Be gentle, especially if you are currently losing hair. Some hair may be lost in the short run, but this is hair that would have fallen out anyways.
